Celebrating One Year of HELA Initiative
March 2026 marked one year of Healthy Ears, Limited Annoyance (HELA) Initiative — a year of research‑informed collaboration, learning and shared commitment to safer, more sustainable listening at live music events.
What began as a shared ambition has grown into an international effort, shaped by academics, freelancers, audiologists, manufacturers and organisations across the world who are ready to approach sound in ways that protect audiences, workers, and communities while supporting artistic intent.
Over the past twelve months, HELA Initiative has worked alongside the sector to translate current understanding on sound and hearing into clear, practical guidance, accessible education and real‑world tools. Our work has focused on building evidence-based guidance, improving understanding and supporting better decisions so that powerful, engaging live events can also be safe, sustainable and enjoyable.
In just one year, HELA Initiative has:
- Launched a suite of accessible, research‑informed teaching modules
- Supported venues and organisations to embed safer listening and sound management practices
- Helped practitioners build confidence in acoustics, measurement, and sound level management
- Strengthened sector understanding of noise pollution, neighbour impact, and community relations
- Helped create a shared language around sound limits, hearing protection and venue and system design
Most importantly, we’ve seen the sector embrace the idea that safer sound isn’t a restriction but a route to better experiences, healthier teams, and more resilient events.
To mark this milestone, we’re sharing a new video that captures the heart of the HELA Initiative: why it exists, who it serves, and how it is helping the live events ecosystem move towards healthier ears and reduced annoyance without compromising impact.
Whether you’re discovering HELA Initiative for the first time or have been involved since the early days, this video offers a snapshot of what we’ve achieved together — and a glimpse of the direction our collective work is taking.
As we move into our second year, HELA Initiative remains focused on advancing safe and sustainable listening through evidence‑based guidance, practical tools and ongoing collaboration with partners across the sector. There is more to build, more to learn and more to change — and we’re looking forward to continuing that journey with you.
Thank you for being part of HELA Initiative’s first year. Here’s to the next chapter — and to a future where safe sound is simply the way our sector works.
